Charcoal Self-Portrait

The subject of this art is me! The setting is a blank background. I made this by using charcoal and white charcoal to create an image of myself. I also used a grid to create this artwork so the shapes were as proportional as I could get them to be.

The only composition technique I really used was shading and contrast. These are shown in the features of my face, especially my nose and smile. My project evolved because I kept adding and revising shading.

The story behind this artwork is that we were told to find or take a picture of ourselves and draw it and this was the best picture I could find. It was taken in FLEX class last year in my math classroom. This project relates to my life because it is a past image of myself and a reflection on what I looked like/who I was as a person last year.
