Green-Flame Dragon

Watercolor Marker & Gel Pen

Artist Statement:

For this project the each student in the class received a paper with a series of random ink drops on them. The goal was to draw something out of those ink drops. In my ink drops, at first I saw a person fishing, but then I saw the figure of a dragon. I decided to do the dragon because I really love any sort of fantasy creature, and I'm not too fond of drawing people.

The materials I used for this piece were watercolor markers and a black gel pen.

I started this piece out by trying to figure out what I was going to draw from the ink drops, so I turned the paper around several times until I saw a dragon. Then I sketched out the body and chose the colors I would use and where. After I colored the dragon in, I decided what I wanted the fire to look like, so I sketched and colored that in too. Then I took the gel pen and went over all of the pencil lines with it. My project evolved when I added a few black dots on the dragon's skin to go with the ink dots, and when I added a tongue. One thing I would have added would be something for a background.
