Artist Statement:

For this assignment, the class had to speed-draw a child's view of their face, a still-life, and the face of a building. I think my best sketch, even though I didn't finish it, was my face. I'm surprised that it turned out so well since I've never done that angle and I haven't done a self-portrait in a year.

The materials I used for this project were sketch paper and an HB pencil.

I started with the portrait because that one was the most difficult and I wanted to get it out of the way. I have a mirror that can tilt very far, so that was helpful. I had a really hard time on my nose, but it turned out fine. Then I did the still-life. I chose a small jar to draw. I thought it would be quick and simple, but it still doesn't look too great. The last sketch I did was the front of a building. I really rushed this one so the lines are quite uneven. If I were to do anything differently on these projects, I would go back a fix the line accuracy of the building and the jar, and I would finish the portrait because I think it would end up looking really good.
