SI #2

The ideas that are visually evident are mythology, color, and texture. The story behind this work is that the class had to make up a sustained investigation question and make three works about it. I only did two, but my question was "how can I explore mythology through creatures in my drawings using color and texture?" This project relates to my life because I really love greek mythology and creatures, and making drawings using colored pencil.

The materials used in this project were colored pencil and bristol board.

The process I used to create this was researching the creature and it's attributes. I learned about it's many depictions, the meaning of its name, and about it's sisters. The creature I chose was one of the Harpies. The name of the Harpy I chose was Celaeno. It means 'dark one,' so I tried to incorporate that into the art. My project evolved because I added a purple outline to give it an interesting touch. My next steps would be to darken the colors.
