Glaucus

Artist Statement:
For this sustained investigation project, I decided to choose the Greek god Glaucus. At the time, I was reading a book called Circe by Madeline Miller, which included him as a character. The information about him was really compelling. This inspired me to look into his story and the myths about him, and wonder what he looked like. The description in the book sounded very intriguing, but I additionally gave him long hair and fins for arms.
Since this project is still and "in-progress" work, all I used was and HB pencil.
My process for creating this work was to find as much information about him as I could, looking at different myth variations and depictions. I decided on my favorite features, adding a few along the way, and sketched him out. I decided to draw this creature younger and without a beard, adding fins and longer hair. If I were to add anything, it would be to complete this piece, giving him some color and doing some whales and fish in the background.
