Negative Space Leaves

I made a negative space art project of leaves, and illustrated the negative space as different patterns with different colors. I did this by copying the outline a layout of leaves, and made some parts of the leaves touching so the patterns in those spaces would be different. Then I thought of the patterns. I used pencil first, and then went over it with card-making marker pens and colored things in. I chose to create it like this because didn't want people to be bored with it; I wanted them to be intrigued and draw their eyes to different parts of the piece.

This piece showcases techniques such as negative space illustration, zentangle design patterns, and representational abstraction. It shows these because I created a negative space project, illustrated zentangle designs in the negative space, and the project is abstract, but representational because of the leaves. I had to change the shape of the leaves a few times because I couldn't get them to look right for a while. I tend to draw from memory not looking at shapes, but I am doing better with that. I also changed my patterns by adding more to them to make them more interesting.

The meaning of his piece is my love of leaves in the spring, but more importantly, what's all around them. This relates to my life because I try not to focus on one thing, but see everything around it too, because that's what that thing beautiful.
