Tainted Cyclone
The story behind this piece is that we had to create a sculpture that was about/our reaction to the pandemic that is currently going on. I chose to react to it in my own way and create a sculpture that represented how I was feeling about it and how my life has been since the outbreak began. By the looks of the sculpture, it has been quite hectic and confusing; difficult to tell where ends meet. There are a lot of cool colors like blue which represent the detachment and sadness about the situation, and then the white is for shock. Then there are a few hot colors like red and yellow, and those represent the high-stress moments and frustration. This whole pandemic situation was and is a whole mess of emotions, so I thought a cyclone would colors going every which way would be the best way to show this.
The materials I used for this piece were 18 gauge galvanized steel wire, and magazine paper. I used needle nose pliers and various sizes of cylindrical objects to wrap the wire.
I started by wrapping the wire for the cyclone, and then I made a stand for it because it would not stand up on it's own. Then I chose pieces of paper out of magazine and ripped them into strips and such, and started by weaving them into the sides. Then I rolled larger pieces and placed them in the center of the cyclone. My project evolved because I was only going to use blue and white colors, but it needed more than that to align with how i was actually feeling. MY next steps could be to create some sort of scenic background or add more pieces of paper that stick out from the cyclone.
