Artist Statement:

For this sustained investigation project, I decided to draw an Axex, which is a creature from Egyptian mythology similar to a griffin. I decided to choose this creature because I was thinking of doing a griffin, but I wanted something that was a little different and that no one has ever heard of. That was when I came across the Axex, and I thought it would be perfect to do a project on.

The materials I used for this project were HB pencil and sketch paper.

I first started this project by doing a lot of research about what this creature looks like, and looking at different artist's interpretations of it. Then I compiled the ideas I wanted to use together to create this drawing. It took a bit of trial and error, but in the end, it turned out great. My project evolved because I went through several different head and beak types before I chose the one I used. My next steps could be to add in charcoal like I had wanted to to make this piece look excellent and complete.
