Pure Contour

I drew the pure contours of my hand wrapped in a rubber band, and of three views of my shoe. I made this by examining their shapes, and used pencil to sketch it out first. Then I went over it with a darker pencil to make the lines crisp. I did this better with the shoes. I chose to put the rubber band on my hand that way because I wanted it to look interesting and different, and I chose those shoes to draw because they are my favorite pair of shoes. I really looked at how different parts of the objects were shaped and all the little details they had. I arranged my hand that way because I wanted to challenge myself, and arranged the shoe views that way so they looked aesthetically pleasing.

The techniques shown in these pieces are analyzing shapes and using the right type of pencil for different types of lines. You can see this in the comparison if the pencil markings of the hand versus the shoes. I did not use the right type of pencil for the hand. I had to erase and change shapes many times, because what I was drawing wasn't what I perceived the shape to be.

The story behind the hand drawing is that we were told to draw a pure contour of our own hand with a rubber band on it in some way. The story for the shoes is that we were supposed to bring in a shoe to draw the 'blue prints' of, as in a pure contour. These projects relate to my life because we don't really pay attention to the shapes and detail of things that are around us, such as our own hand and shoes, so drawing them can be tricky.
