Nemean Lion

Felt on Cardboard

Artist Statement:

The story behind this work is that I decided to choose the Nemean lion for the mythological creature in this work. I wanted to try to highlight and emphasize the different parts of the face with different colors as we did on the photoshop portraits. This project relates to my life because I really love mythological creatures and felines, so I wanted to create a work of a feline mythological creature.

The materials I used were the photoshop app for my design template and felt, hot glue, and cardboard for my final project.

The process I used to create my work of art was to first create a design template on photoshop of how I wanted to arrange the felt pieces and colors of the face. Then I printed out the design, cut it apart, glued the pieces onto felt, cut the felt into the shape of the pieces, ripped the paper pieces off, and then arranged the felt into the face. It was a long process. Then I glued the felt pieces to a piece of cardboard. My project evolved because I ended up changing the designated colors of the felt pieces around, just so no two of the same-colored pieces were directly touching. This made the face much more colorful looking, especially in the nose area. My next steps could be to add a mane on the final version. I was thinking it could be strands of yarn or frilly fabric, and that would look a lot better than just the face.
