Duck Stamp

Black Brant Goose

The ideas that are visually evident in this piece are the goose and it's watery environment. The class had to choose a duck or goose to make an art project on to help promote wetland preservation. I chose to do the Brant. This project relates to my life because I actually really like ducks and geese, and I have ducks at home, whom I love. But, I was really attracted to the simplicity of the Brant's coloring. Although it is simple, it looks really cool.

The materials I used for this project were bristol board, colored pencil, and a white eraser.

The process I used with this piece was compiling a few images that had ideas I wanted to use, making a sketch, and then layering and adding color. I experimented with this by really looking at the shadows and feather patterns on the duck and trying to replicate that. My project evolved because I changed by idea for the land that the goose is standing on from rocks to dirt. My next steps could be to add something to make the scene more interesting, making the water look more realistic, adding more layers to the dirt, and making the goose's back just a bit darker.
