New Vision of an Old Work #1

Artist Statement:

For this revision project, I decided to revise my Nure-onna project. I chose to revise that one because I thought it was really lacking aesthetically, and I believed that I could use the idea for the creature in a much better way. I chose to do this by changing up the composition and changing the materials I used. I picked photoshop as my new material because I had really enjoyed using photoshop in the past and I wanted to get back into it. I thought I could really make this creature look good if I used photoshop because the work I've done in the past with it has turned out very well.

For this project, I used an HB pencil in my sketch, and Photoshop for the final product.

The process I used when creating this work was first figuring out the new composition of the creature. I didn't have to worry about its design because that was already figured out from the previous project. I ended up deciding to make a composition of Nure-onna sitting in a tree while wrapping her tail around the trunk. It was a bit of a stretch since the creature actually lives in water and her name literally means "wet-woman." But I was willing to stretch the rules a little to create a great composition. Then I took a picture of my sketch and uploaded it into photoshop, tracing over the lines and outlining shadows. I filled in colors to the patches of space within the lines. In the end, I gave her multi-colored green hair, a top, and decided not to add blue to her tail. I think it turned out great overall. If I were to add anything, I would probably be to add more shadows everything doesn't look as flat.
