Disability Inclusion Project

The Beauty of Difference

Watercolor & Fine-point marker

Artist Statement:

I decided to use flowers in this project because I feel like they are all very diverse, but still the same. Kind of like people. So I wanted to use the flowers as a metaphor for people. This project relates to my life because I really enjoy flowers, so much so that I have my own garden full of them.

This project was created with watercolor and a fine-point marker on bristol board paper.

My process for creating this artwork was researching what flower bouquets looked like, and experimenting with creating flowers and leaves in watercolor. Once I got an idea of what I wanted to do, I painted it on the paper. Then I chose to use the same message as my disability inclusion project from last year because I thought it was a good message and was fitting for this design. I even used the same font when I drew them in with the fine-point marker. My project evolved because at first, the bouquet was just the flowers with not leaves poking out around the outside, but I decided to add it them to make the bouquet look more fun and full. My next steps could be to maybe underline the words.
