Artist Inspired

The subject of my project is a dragon chained to the ground. The setting is isolation, being trapped, and a lot of emotion. The work was made by making a cut-out of a dragon, chain, and metal post that I drew. I then taped and traced the cut-out on the paper I would make the project on. I left it there to cover the spot while I splattered blue and green watercolor paint on the paper. After that, removed the cut-out and colored in the left space with black colored pencil. I chose to make this artwork because I thought it would be very thought provoking.

The composition rules and techniques that are shown are leading lines and silhouette lighting. This is shown in the silhouette of the dragon and chain. The chain is the leading line toward the metal post in the ground and the dragon on the other end. My project evolved because I tried to add as much interesting watercolor as I could.

The story behind this artwork is that we were given the task to be inspire by two artists works and incorporate some aspect in our own work. My two artists that I was inspired by were Kara Walker and Jackson Pollock. Kara Walker did silhouette artwork that was pretty dark, and Jackson Pollock poured and splattered paint. This project relates to my life because I thought this was a really interesting aspect to do my project on.
