1/4 cup butter
1 small onion, grated
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cider vinegar
1 1/2 cups dry white wine
1 cup chicken broth
1 small potato, grated
1 qt. sauerkraut, drained
2 tart green apples, pared and diced
In a large saucepan, heat butter. Sauté onion. Add the sugar and let it melt; add remaining ingredients except apples and a ham hock (optional). Simmer 30 min. more. Now I know those of you born in the South will find it hard to believe but this is DEE licious! Serve it with a platter of smoked sausage or smoked pork chops and you have a hearty treat.
