This recipe was given me by Gloria Snyder, a neighbor in the Waterview apartments. I recall that I was mixing up this recipe in the house on Elmwood when a neighbor called me to tell me that J.S., and his friends, Bryson and Randy, were on top of the Gamble's roof. When I got the the Gamble backyard, J.S. was assuring Randy, who was about 10 lb. heavier than J.S., that he would help him down. Life was never dull on Elmwood Drive.
1/2 cup flour
3-3/4 cup sugar
1 cup butter
1 tsp. salt
6 whole eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 unbaked pastry shells.
Combine flour, sugar and salt. Melt butter and add with eggs to mixture, beating slightly with elec. mixer. Add buttermilk and continue to beat with a spoon to combine. Add vanilla and blend. Pour into pastry shells and bake at 350° for 35-40 min. or until firm from center to edges and a golden brown. This is a wonderful old fashioned pie.
