This 5.8km walk along the coast from Seahouses to Bamburgh, starts from the quay in Seahouses.
Seahouses began as a farming community. Its history includes a long spell of creating lime to enrich fields -the old lime kilns are used for storage along the quay today. It also had a rich past as a fishing port until the mid 20th century. Now it is the tourist hub for wildlife trips to the Farne Islands.
From the Seahouses quay, follow the coast path north along the side of the road until you find steps down from the sand dunes to the beach.
Follow the sandy beach, over the occasional flat outcrop of rock, taking in the views of the Farne Islands, until you see Bamburgh Castle across the dunes. Take the path into the dunes, towards the car park, turning right to head towards the castle. Where the path meets the road, follow the sign to the village, past the entrance to the castle.
At Bamburgh, explore the village and castle. In summer, may be take in a game of croquet on the recreation ground. Also, visit the church an remember Grace Darling, who is buried there and visit the crypt with its audio visual story of the Saxon graves found in the dunes. Across the road is the Grace Darling Museum.
To return, either catch the 18X bus or follow the coast path back through the dunes to Seahouses.
