Pitt-Hursley

This 4 mile walk starts at the bus stop in Pitt, south of Winchester and ends in Hursley. The route follows the footpath across the golf course to Oliver's Battery -so called as it is said Oliver Cromwell bombarded Winchester from her in the 17th Century. It then goes up Yew Hill, descending to Silkstead where it heads west to Hursley.
There are two pubs in Hurley waiting for you at the end of the walk.
Catch the Number 66 Bus from Winchester or Romsey to Pitt (Yew Tree Cottage stop).

To the right of the bus stop on the Winchester to Romsey side in Pitt is the footpath to the golf course. Take this path.

Follow the path between the blue marker posts.

4. At the edge of the golf course the path narrows as it goes between the houses, then crosses a track until it meets the main residential road. Turn right and follow the road.

One of the houses has some interesting acacia tress in the front front garden.

Where the road narrows into a country lane, there is a thatched cottage to the right and bridle path on the left. Take the bridle path.

The pth opens out to follw the edge to the fields.

In the far right of the fields, it branches off between hedgerows.

As you descend there is a patch of coppiced hazel.

At the bottom of the hill, Silkstead, turn right onto the footpath to Hursley.

On the edge of Hurlsey you pass the cemetery.
There are two pubs in Hursley where you can seek refreshments whilst waiting for the bus.
