Lower Dart Valley

This is an 8 mile circular walk of the lower part of the River Dart estuary starting at Dittisham. We combined our walk with a visit to the National Trust owned Greenway House, the summer home of Agatha Christie. If parking here, follow the route anti-clockwise, as it is important to cross using the Greenway Ferry from/to Dittisham first as this is the one that stops running first.

There is a visitor car park above the rustic village of Dittisham (w3w.co/icons.complains.sunbeam ). Do NOT attempt to drive down to the quay as it is extremely narrow. Cross the river using the tiny passenger ferry and follow the Dart Valley Trail signs to Kingswear. This gives great views of the river and includes woodland, pasture and a flat stretch in between the river and the steam railway.

At Kingswear, catch either the passenger ferry by the railway station or car ferry a little lower down the river, to Dartmouth.

Head up the main streets to continue the sign posted trail back to Dittisham.
