This short 1.5 mile walk starts and finishes at Gara Bridge in Devon but could equally start in Curtisknowle if that is more convenient. Although short, there is a steep climb up from the river, which is rewarded with glimpses of Dartmoor in the distance.

We started from the Gara Bridge Campsite

1.

Take the bridle path to the right of the post box and continue until you come down to the river.

2.

As the path approaches the river level, there is a sharp branch off the right up the hill. Follow this up until you reach the village of Curtisknowle. Take a moment along the way to look into the fields where you have views in the distance of the Dartmoor hills.

3.

Go under the little bridge and turn left to follow the metalled lane back to Gara Bridge.

There are two stone bridges over the road, one at Curtisknowle and the other on the road back to Gara Bridge. These appear to carry a track which goes nowhere. The first seems to have someone's garden on the top. They are privately owned and are said to have been the winding carriage route used in the 19th century to carry people from the railway station at Gara Bridge up to Curtisknowle -probably a longer but less steep route than the road takes today.
