This is a 2.5 mile walk through the Lower Test Nature Reserve. It surprised me to find such a rustic and tranquil walk in such an urban area close to the motorway.
Start in Mill Lane, Nursling or the Calmore Industrial Estate. There is a makeshift lay-by in Mill Lane at "A" on the map.
1.
From here take the footpath into the Lower Test Nature reserve and follow it down to the level crossing. Turn right to continue on the path across the Test Valley.
2.
At the road, turn right through the front of the watermill and bridges over the River Test. A little way through the woods, take the path on the right into open meadow.
3.
Turn right at the fence and at the end of the meadow, head into the woods.
4.
Take the right fork through the wood until you come out at the industrial estate.
5.
Continue through the industrial estate until you see a road into Southern Water on the Right. Take the footpath to the left of this road through the wood, over the stream and out onto the meadow.
6.
Cross the stile onto the lane and turn right. Follow this track over the bridge and along the river to the converted watermill.
7.
Continue past the watermill on the left and onto Mill Lane back to your start point (if you started in Mill Lane).
