Stiper Stones

Park at The Bog car park, just past the visitor centre (grid ref: SO 357 977). This a circular 5 mile walk up to the Nipstone Rock, along the brow of the hill, past the stiper Stones and then back down to the ca park. There a number of opportunities to make the route longer or shorter to suit your needs.

To the right of the car park are the remains of a building with information boards explaining the history and geology of The Bog mine and village. After reading this, continue up the road a little way and take the footpath on the right into the woods.

1.

Continue on the path keeping the hills on your left. Pass the campsite on the left, cross the track into the pine wood and out into the field.

2.

Admire the view as you follow the footpath across the fields to the point where it crosses the road. On the other side, continue slightly up the hill, turning left onto the main Shropshire Way path, through the heather up to The Nipstone.

3.

Follow the Shropshire Way path along the crest of the hill, past the Nipstone Rock, over the track and the road, up to the peak of the Stiper Stones. The highest stone has a lonesome trigpoint on the summit, out of reach without a rock climb.

4.

About 1km further on than the summit, you meet a crossroads (cross paths?). Take the left hand path down the hill.

5.

At the crossroads, where the heathland becomes fenced green fields, turn left to follow the path along the foot of the hills back to the car park.
