Martin's Haven

Walked 24th May 2022

This 7.3km (4.7 miles) walk loops along the coast path with stunning cliff and island views before cutting up inland and back to the start. Day visitors can start at either of the two National Trust car parks. We started and finished at West Hook Farm Campsite.

The terrain is hilly and along cliff tops. One North American visitor we met on the walk told us it was the best coastal view he had seen anywhere.

A short detour takes you to the Runwayskiln cafe.

The end of the cliff walk the path dips down to the Harloes Sands beach. A great resting point and chance to watch the waves.

The Haven, in good summer weather, has pre-booked trips to Skomer Island and boat trips out to see puffins on the water. The Pembrokeshire Wildlife Trust have a shop selling "gifts" and coffee as well as information about the area. They are housed in Lockley Lodge , originally the mainland base for the family living on Skokholm Island.

The south coast has views out towards Skomer and Skokholm Island.

Martin's Haven is a small bay in Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK, on the Dale Peninsula, with views across St Bride's Bay towards St David's. Its shingle beach has a stone slipway which acts as an embarkation point for the ferry which visits the nearby island of Skomer, a national nature reserve, during summer. Martin's Haven lies within the Skomer Marine Conservation Zone and is popular for scuba diving. Grey seals can be seen basking on the rocks. The land is owned by the National Trust.
