The 2.5 mile (3.5km) walk starts and finishes at The Lord Nelson pub in Sutton-on-Trent. From the pub, turn right and take the second turning on the right. This takes you to large open meadow area protected from flooding by large dykes.

Head east to the edge of the river, which is tidal at this point. Follow the top of the dyke north, enjoying views out across the River Trent and the open, flat landscape.

Just over the foot bridge, turn back inland to the village.
