November 17, 2012 -- Wellness Wishes on a Weekend
My sister died when I was 7. She was 5. We were in a terrible car accident, actually quite near the school, at the crossroads of Old Two Notch and Calks Ferry. On her gravestone, Mom and Dad had inscribed: "She brightened up a couple of days." That's from a song John Denver sang:
Tools was a baby rabbit, he was a friend of mine.
Momma, Poppa, Brother and Sister left him all behind.
He came over to my house, brightened up a couple of days.
Tools you made me smile a lot and I wish you could have stayed.
Life is short and so am I.
As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday, I am happily overwhelmed with all the blessings we enjoy! I am so thankful for the opportunity to work in a place where people "smile a lot." "For the happy heart, life is a continual feast." You can ask me later where I got that . . . I'm sure Janet told me?! :-)
Here's some fun to sweeten your day. Try this "chocolate challenge!" All the answers are names of familiar chocolate candies! Let me know your thinking -- I hope this brightens your day! May it reminds us to put a smile on our faces and to enjoy the gift of laughter. May it lighten our loads and ease our fears.

Wellness Wishes on a Weekend,

November 8, 2012 -- Wellness Wishes on a Thursday
I love the opportunity for re-energization (is that a word?) and inspiration a professional conference provides! The SC School Counselors Conference in Myrtle Beach this past weekend was a wonderful learning experience, and I’m already enjoying trying out some of the new ideas. J
I attended a stress management workshop that shared a neat idea for “Sharpening the Saw” (Happy Kid Habit #7) or finding “balance” in your life. It’s a great strategy for visual learners especially. Take a paper plate and write down all that you do – see just how full your plate is! Then on the back of the plate, prioritize (Put First Things First—Happy Kid Habit #3) these responsibilities and activities. Before you put anything new on your plate, take something “off,” if you need to do that to achieve balance. Do you have “to dos” on your plate that are not priorities? Chuck those!
Life is SHORT and so am I . . . don’t spend your time doing something that isn’t a good use of your time and abilities! You can make the world a better place in a way that no one else can. Are you “gitting er done?” The plate procedure helps you do some thinking and really see it clearly!
Be well TODAY and EVERYDAY!
Pooh: “What day is it?”
Piglet: “It’s today.”
Pooh: “My favorite day!”
Are you spending today in your favorite way?
