"Pete the Cat"
Pretend to hold a rock in one hand and a ball of clay in the other. Squeeze your hands tight! OUCH! What hurts? The rock is hard. Sometimes problems are hard. There is no way around them. You can only control your reaction and response. Other problems are like the ball of clay. You have some control. You can make a better choice to help the problem. What kind of problems did Pete the Cat have?
"The Toliet Paper Fix"
It's a way to show kiddos that you as the teacher help students in a way that will help them grow and learn the most during the school year. Each person is different and has different needs. You have someone pretend to hurt their arm and then you wrap it with toliet paper as a fix. You have someone complain of a headache and then you wrap their ARM with toliet paper. You have another student have a problem with their leg and you wrap their ARM with toliet paper. By this time, the kiddos are letting you know you are not helping them the way they need help.
"Animal Friends"
Share puppets/toys & introduce the animal friends.
Read/describe stories & match with the animal friends:
Ruthie & the Not So Teeny Tiny Lie -- snake
Ruby the Copycat -- sheep
The Recess Queen -- shark
Dimity Dumpty -- turtle
Herman the Helper -- teddy bear
Norma Jean Jumping Bean -- monkey
Use posters to review/test. "I'm thinking of . . ." Have students who answer correctly put the toy/puppet back in the bag.
