Pruritus

Causes:

Dry skin, aging, drug reaction, uremia, obstructive jaundice, lice, lymphoma, leukemia, pregnancy.

• • While identifying the underlying cause, consider the use of the following agents:

  • Diphenhydramine (Benadryl), 25 - 50 mg PO q6 - 8h prn (or other antihistamine)

  • Hydroxyzine (Atarax, Vistaril), 25 mg PO q6 - 8h prn

  • Sarna lotion
