Prostatitis

Definition: inflammatory condition affecting prostate, includes acute and chronic infections.

• Avoid vigorous massage as it causes bacteremia.

• Prostatic inflammation can be considered if the EPS and post-massage urine contain at least >10 x leukocytes, than midstream urine, OR

  • EPS contains >1000 leukocytes/microliter
