Koch's postulates

Koch, in 1882, established the criteria for linking of a specific microorganism to a specific disease:

• 1. The organism is found in the lesion of the disease

  2. The organism can be cultured and grown as single colonies

  3. The organism from the culture, when inoculated in an experimental animal, causes disease.

  4. The organism can be recovered from lesions in the animal.
