Determine if IV access is necessary

IV meds, IVF, blood transfusions, etc.

Consider if IV meds can be give orally

If IV access is necessary, see the patient and attempt a peripheral line placement.

• If not successful, call IVDT for assistance.

• Then consider other types of IV access such as PICC lines.

• If no options exists, place CVC.
