This commensal strain of Futuris integrates with the host at a depth much greater than the normal microbiota. It can pass into host cells and signal for the regeneration of telomeres and stimulate regeneration and developmental pathways in age-damaged tissues. The net effect is a slowing to the normal processes associated with aging, and leads to a dramatic increase in lifespan.
F. longevitus was developed by Deliberacci, a member of the Frumentarii, who shared it with his colleagues, enabling them to live for many years past their normal human lifespans. It does not grant immortality however, as there is a decay rate to F. longevitus as the body naturally becomes resistant to it's effects. F. longevitus only grows in very strict environmental conditions, and as such it is produced in very small quantities in the few remaining bioreactors capable of supporting them.
A different environmental niche for a variant of F. longevitus is in the population of Draugr who wander about the radiation-ridden GRIEF.
Initial usage will decrease a character's age apparent age by 10 years, to a minimum of 25, and for the next 10 years will halve the rate of aging. Subsequent uses will decrease a character's age by 10-(additional uses), to a minimum of 25+(additional uses). The next 10 years will still always carry the halved rate of aging. A character's true age is always kept track of, and is important for meeting the requirements for age-related features such as the status Centenarian.
