Weapons have 3 basic statistics:
Damage - How much wounding is caused by each hit.
Precision - The variability or precision with which you can aim the weapon to strike the same place twice.
Speed - How quickly you can attack with the weapon.
Weapons can also have a variety of other properties.
Weapons have a variety of modes of attack. Almost all weapons, including ranged weapons, have some rudimentary melee attack (e.g. pistol-whip).
