In this time of technological scarcity following Decentralization, microchips became extremely valuable. They had rapidly become one of the most important units of currency on Calydon. The culture had gravitated towards valuing that which gave them the most convenience and ease of life. Getting more microchips meant upgrading all your devices. Most people were well trained in their youth about the hardware architecture of cutting edge electronics, so they could look at a wafer covered in resistors, circuits, electrodes, and lights and be able to just trim a few leads here and there, connect them to other microchips and devices, and with a small whiff of ozone, repair or create custom electronic devices. Personal electronics became very popular especially when the Cavewall started breaking down.

As item components, they have features such as auto-stabilization for higher accuracy, or optimization processes for lower energy consumption.
