The era preceding the nuclear exchange that ended the Great War.
Decentralization refers to a short, but dramatic period in history when Inducious Technologies (InTech) was removed from total control of Calydon and its residents. As one of the primary founding companies involved in developing and building Calydon, InTech gradually absorbed all the other contracted organizations present on the space station. Since no laws had ever been drafted to govern the balance of the economy in space, InTech took it upon themselves to oversee the operations on Calydon to the most minor detail, from the disbursement of goods to the supply of electricity.
Decentralization occurred when Calydon's inhabitants felt as if questions about the nature of the "world" from the newest generation on Calydon were tacitly "InTech supplies it" or "it belongs to InTech." Not wanting to be trapped under a feudal system in space under corporate guise, a massive revolt resulted in the disconnection of residents and the grip of InTech on all walks of life.
It was not a peaceful transition, and much of the beneficial technology and infrastructure the moribund company had worked so hard to develop and build was disabled or dismantled. During this period there was little order, and people began to form their own organizations and groups, many that had profound disagreements with each other. It was as though the fateful Tower of Babel had been built as Calydon, but while its residents had dwelled in a new haven, paradise was fractured yet again.
