Each player controls their characters in the world of Ephemeral Respite.
The introduction to the game places the player on earth around 2092, making their way to one of the last departing space shuttles while it collapses into nuclear winter. They will arrive on the space station a number of years later, when Calydon has already undergone Decentralization. During their journey, they may choose to join with a faction. Subsequent (beyond the first) characters a player makes can optionally start in a settlement controlled by a faction that player has already visited.
Character creation happens throughout the introduction of the game, with different checkpoints allowing the player to select their class, skills and traits, and starting attributes. New characters receive a bonus of 10 attribute points that are randomly distributed between their starting attributes to reflect the unpredictable nature of genetic diversity.
Level Cap
There is no level cap. Every level gained will grant a permanent passive bonus to the amount of wealth discovered from encounters. More substantial bonuses will be gained every 10 levels, with a very substantial bonus every 100 levels.
