PVP Zones
There are three types of PVP areas.
Safe Areas: In safe areas, all characters are given the status Merciful, meaning you can still get attacked in safe areas, but you cannot kill or be killed. Settlements (starting areas) are all Safe Areas, where player killing is never tolerated.
Wild Areas: In this zone anything goes. Killed player is prompted with the ability to place a bounty on their killer's head. This amount is immediately deducted from your own wealth.
Arenas: PKing in arena zones will not incur the statuses Griefer's Bane or Wanted Man. The arena is an organized space for spectated duels. The players can enter into a free for all area mode, or select specific or matched opponents with which to do battle. These matches can also be in a free for all or team style play. Players can choose between the hardcore arenas, where death is permanent, or the sparring arenas, where the fighting is simulated. In the sparring areas, players cannot be killed, but instead drop to a knee as in Safe Areas and are treated as defeated until the end of the match.
Spectators in some types of arena zones can sway the tide of battle. While they watch the match, they can choose a player or team that they support. The player or team with the most spectator support in a match will benefit from the status High Morale. In such an area with no PC spectators, the fans will cheer for the losing team to provide them a modest handicap.
For a more exciting PVP experience, consenting players can agree upon and set a higher rate of action point (AP) recovery in a duel, so actions can fire in more rapid sequence.
Rewards
The reward for killing a player in a hardcore arena or in Wild Areas is their current equipment, and some percentage of their currencies. Most of the slain player's items are uploaded into their Matrix, like in normal death. The reward for killing players of much lower level are very small.
Killing a player in a Wild Area will also give you a stack of the statuses Griefer's Bane and A Taste for Blood, if they did not have a bounty on their head. With enough killing and crime, you could gain the status Wanted Man and have a bounty put on your own head.
