Team Member Introductions

Edwin Rutsch

I’m Founding Director of The Center for Building a Culture of Empathy. bio is here. http://j.mp/JJ56r7

I’ve done the Design kit course about 6 times and am interested in applying design to create tools for fostering empathy between people.

Maricela Chan

I am a UX/UI designer for mobile app. I have a background in architecture as well. I am a self-starter, friendly, and motivated. I am excited to learn from everyone in the team.

Taylor Siebenaler

I'm a passionately curious optimist who is looking to develop my interests in design, positive psychology, and consumer insights in a way that contributes to the betterment of society. I hail from beautiful Colorado and currently reside in Brooklyn, NY with my fiancé and sweet labrador retriever (who we are training to be a therapy dog). I'm currently working for an urban marketplace organization who helps support a roster of over 500 chefs, artists, and makers by providing them with the resources and locations to sell their wares.

I'm looking forward to further investigating empathy as a crucial skill / tool in the human-centered design process. I'm an introvert (INFJ) by nature, so I think it will be good for me to step outside of my comfort zone for the interviewing and prototyping process. I look forward to working with you all!

Trang Nguyen

Hi everyone, my name is Trang Nguyen. I have been working as a graphic designer and UX/UI designer for a BI Consulting Company, developing executive dashboards as well as other marketing collateral. I am a self-taught designer and always eager to learn concepts in design. I find this course very interesting and applicable to the UX/UI field. I did not pay attention to the assignment of Empathy Design at first, but now it strikes me as very interesting! Obviously people have not spent enough time to actively learn how to empathize. I used to have the notion that empathy is a personal character.

Of course as human beings we have natural empathy for one another, but the level depends on each individual. Through this project I hope to learn more about assessing empathy as a skill, which can be and should be learned and improve upon. It is still an vague concept for me as which tool - tangible or intangible - is to create empathy among people. But I look forward to meeting with you all to discuss and learn more. I have read the first chapter of the course. IDEO's project is quite inspiring!
