team-6 Interview

How might we make empathy circles fun and engaging for high school students?

Edwin interview Wendy

edwin: how are you about empathy fun and engagement for high school students? what comes up for you spontaneously?

wendy: in all honesty, nothing comes to mind. i can’t relate to high schoolers. being unable to relate to them, i can’t even imagine what would be fun for them. hearing your interview, i think having it be physical, and having them get into that place of engagement and emotional investment will make it successful even if not fun. after hearing you say that, how do we get them to engage? you need trust and connection. that’s on my heart right now.

edwin: i was thinking of role play. you are HS student. just went to Hollywood HS where it is class conscious and people put each other down. imagine how could you make the school have empathy circles? would you do a role play?

wendy: i don’t mind playing, what’s my character and motivation?

edwin: asian descent, first year in high school did EC with family, and feel it’s needed in schools, but people are more into put downs and one upmanships

wendy: i would approach school admin or student body government and propose volunteer work. volunteer work that involved interacting with those less fortunate having students immerse in the setting will open eyes. having them in that space then doing the EC to talk about issues coming up.
