Intention
I am interested in the practice of empathy and particularly different ways & mediums (media) of teaching and learning.

What do you think of the workshop so far?
I could really see how we warmed up during empathy circle, and it makes sense to me how doing it for longer than would help people go deeper.
We started with shyness, then as it went on, I was feeling myself more engaged with people….
At beginning of reflecting back it seemed too basic, that we were just repeating what the person had just said.
I trusted that they would get it… but do appreciate what Edwin said about practicing.
Appreciated point about different groups, who have their different methodologies, have different rules for how you are supposed to do it… thinking about how you go into one practice of empathetic oriented and learn their rules.
Then there are groups, like the lawyers Edwin mentioned, who don’t have value of communicating in that way.
how do you bridge the gap. between different perhaps competitive styles
among five of us, seem very used to it, it’s a matter of tweaking it…
what is modality that will be useful to re-orient that style of thinking..
repeating back helped us warm up…
How do we crack the nut of taking this into an audience that doesn’t share our empathic listening modality?
Some of that happens before the workshop or the event starts…. how do you come into a different group of people? realizing how many people there are in this area who do this kind of work...
how do we break out of our touchy-feely networks?
We have the preacher, we are on fire, but how do we make those on the outside come in?
I model this with groups who are not used to it. ie when I was in another country
I can try to model the active listening,
modeling this to other people, when I am in other groups...

Insight
Millicent has enjoyed the workshop, and the connections we are developing. She appreciates the different kinds of practices that empathy exercise can take. She wonders what we can do to bring empathy training to groups of people, e.g., lawyers, who don’t seem currently attuned to it as a valuable practice.

Millicent’s needs: how to move forward with this.
How to make this kind of work more accessible? To make it easier.
problems in the world, anxiety, separation, addiction, poverty, pollution, mass extinction, violence, depression
How might we inventory the different ways into different people’s hearts?.... and then, make offerings that fit each of them? …
Include as many different modalities as possible: visual, movement, auditory, drawings, partner and solo work, etc. Idea is to reach people who feel comfortable expressing themselves in different ways.
Include more logistical information in the introduction, for example note that there will be bio-break times.

What if... What if the technology network were ancillary to locally-based efforts and circle?
