Introduction to "Dollar Street"

Current status (2020) of the UN Sustainable Development Goals:

Your assignment

You have to prepare a presentation with as many slides as you consider, but there must be a minimum of 12 slides. In addition to your writing, you must include pictures and videos taken from "Dollar Street" for illustrating your ideas.

Dollar Street

      1. Explain what is "Dollar Street". Who started it? What is the goal of the project? What kind of data is collected?

      2. Choose four countries (from the four continents) all families with approximately the same income and comment on similarities and differences. So, keeping the income equal, what similarities and what differences do you observe?

      3. Choose only one country but four families with different incomes. This time, the country is the same but income is variable. What similarities and differences do you observe?

      4. Choose one category (e.g. toys, toilets, beds, etc.), divide the "street" in four sections (poor families, low-middle income, middle-high income, and high income). Then, describe what you see in each section and compare among sections.

      5. Conclusion: What have you learnt visiting "Dollar Street"?

Extra: the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

      1. What are the SDGs? Who proposed them? When were they proposed and when should the world achieve them?

      2. Choose one of the 16 SDGs and:

        1. Take the test related with your SDG and report your results: What surprised you most?

        2. Explain a little bit your goal: which are the specific targets and indicators included in the goal? Get your information from the "Targets and Indicators" section of your goal page (click on your goal to see your goal page and check its tabs or sections).

        3. What is the current status of your goal? Is the world progressing towards the goal? In which areas are we progressing most? Or maybe we are not moving towards the goal or even we are going backwards? Get your information from the "Overview" and "Progress and Info" sections of your goal page (click on your goal to see your goal page and check its tabs or sections).
