5th Oct- ideation

The journey starts

It was a new beginning. It was the second meet up with the Roderick today and the aim was to update him about our final idea. From discussions in the past few weeks, I learnt that sometimes there will always be situations where a choice will be essential. A right choice can sometimes give some form of certainty and a clearer aim in life.

Essentially, we had 2 ideas in mind. One was to come up with a board game for kids to learn coding and the second one was to make cupcakes from a super food called Quinoa. My biggest concern with the board game idea was regarding the market that we were intending to target and the industry we were venturing into. Gaming industry, in my opinion, could be risky and may not attract enough sales. Hence, I was more supportive towards the cupcake idea. However, with discussions accompanied by some arguments, we came to a conclusion of pursuing the quinoa cupcakes eventually. YESSSS.

I am responsible for the creation of website for Quinoire cupcakes. By this time, I had come up with a very basic structure. It was a pretty basic structure to start with but I tried to align the website with the brand positioning of the company. Below is the design of my creation.

Next task that I am responsible for is the telegram channel for marketing. The idea is to create a telegram channel for healthy eating. In this way, we can have a channel for conveying our deals or plans to the target market while establishing our brand positioning. This is in alignment to our upcoming halloween event on 31st October in Crescent-Pioneer Hall where we will be starting our first tasting session of our cupcakes.

My biggest concern up till date was, even though we had the permission to sell ourselves for halloween on 31st October, we still had a lot of things undone. The biggest of all was that we still hadn't finalised our cupcakes. We still had to test and try with quinoa. Moreover, the cost was going to be a major factor. After asking some of my friends, the doubt of whether students will be willing to pay about $4-5 for a cupcake was troubling me. Furthermore, when people eat cupcakes, they are more conscious of its aesthetics and its taste, rather than the health factor. Hence, we had decided to discuss about this further in the next week.

Another task for me is to coordinate with Faris, the CEO, of an existing cupcake company, OCD. I found out some information about their journey. My aim is to learn as much as I can from their knowledge and experience so that we don't end up making the same mistakes. Below are some key points to note:

  • Get a food handling license
  • Registering the company is not recommended at this stage
  • Have big containers for baking large batch of cupcakes
  • Source ingredients from Poon Huat, Malaysia
  • Target corporate companies as well
  • Demand for cupcakes is seasonal

In the end, I truly hope this new journey gives me enough wisdom to learn through difficulties so that I can pave my path to the destination that I want to reach. Looking forward to Quinoire...
