Dear Elementary Families,
If you’ve noticed your child feeling more confident in math—or coming home talking about fractions, number bonds, or a tricky problem they finally solved—you’re seeing one of the real strengths of our school.
For me, one of the biggest differences when I joined ICS was realizing that our work is more than academics. Our students bring something special into the classroom each day: a genuine love for God, a desire to do what is right, and a spirit of humility that shapes how they learn and interact with others. Just as importantly, our teachers share this same heart. They are deeply committed to our students—not only to helping them succeed academically, but to helping them grow as whole people.
Our success in mathematics reflects this strong partnership between students, teachers, and families. MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) results and internal assessments show that a majority of our students are performing in the upper percentiles in mathematics. While we value this data, we see it as one part of a larger picture—evidence of thoughtful instruction, consistent effort, and a supportive learning community.
Beyond number work, what truly stands out is student engagement. Our learners are curious, eager to ask questions, and ready to tackle challenges, with some even stretching their abilities by participating in math competitions. This engagement is further enhanced at ICS, where we intentionally connect mathematics to students' everyday lives through hands-on projects, problem-solving tasks, and math-related field trips. For instance, our P1 students enjoyed a bowling field trip where they used math to track their scores; G3 students took a neighborhood walk to identify rectangular patterns and calculate area and perimeter; and G5 students explored sports data to conduct statistical analyses and make predictions.
While we are proud of where our students are today, we are also committed to continual growth. Strong results invite reflection. They challenge us to ask important questions: What is working well? How can we deepen understanding? How do we continue to challenge students while also supporting those who need it most? As educators, we believe excellence is not a destination but a process—one that requires ongoing learning, collaboration, and thoughtful refinement of our program.
Looking ahead, our goal is to continue exploring effective strategies, strengthening instruction, and nurturing a learning environment where every student can flourish. By holding high expectations, staying reflective, and focusing on both academic growth and character development. We are grateful to walk this journey with you and are excited about what lies ahead as we strive for excellence—step by step, together.
March Learning Highlights
As we move through March, here are some key math topics our students will be exploring:
I encourage you to chat with your child about what they’re learning as an opportunity to learn more about our math program. Thank you for your continued support!
Blessings,
Dr. Marlon Ng
Elementary Math & Science Coordinator

Last year we launched our new parent resource page! We want parents to feel empowered and equipped with the knowledge and resources they need to support their child's growth and success. This page provides resources, and we hope to help parents navigate the challenges of parenting and support your child's overall well-being. Make sure to check out our new parent page HERE!
