Dear ICS Community,
The Heart of Our Community: Learning Through Difference
At ICS, our hallways are a vibrant tapestry of stories. We are a unique crossroads where local heritage meets global perspectives—a community of expats, local families, and dual passport holders all united by a common purpose. While this diversity is our greatest strength, the true magic of our school isn't just in the variety of our passports, but in the intentionality of our connections.
As we approach the Lunar New Year, we are reminded that cultural sensitivity is not a passive trait; it is a skill we cultivate daily. In our mission to serve one another and God, we recognize that navigating a multicultural landscape requires more than just tolerance. It requires empathy, patience, and a genuine spirit of kindness.
Ironically, it is our differences that can provide our most profound "shared experiences." Whether we are navigating the nuances of a traditional tea ceremony or discussing global ethics in the classroom, these moments allow us to see the world through a neighbor's eyes. This intentional learning transforms "them" into "us", a lived daily expression of loving God and one another.
The upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations offer us a beautiful vantage point. It is a season of renewal and reflection—a time to celebrate the richness of Chinese culture while honoring the diverse backgrounds that make ICS a home for every student. By leaning into these cultural moments with curiosity, we model for our children the very heart of a global educator: a person who listens before they speak and loves before they judge.
As we move into this season, let’s challenge ourselves to embrace the "richness of the unknown." Our differences are not barriers to be overcome, but bridges to be crossed. In doing so, we fulfill our service to each other and honor the call to love our neighbor as ourselves.
Wishing you all a season of warmth, understanding, and joy.
Yours in Christ

Donate Blood and Save Lives on Feb 2
A reminder for those registered for the ICS Blood Drive to attend your donation in Rm 103/104 on Feb 2 (Mon). If you haven’t already signed up, please do so by Jan 27, 2026 (Sun) using the link below. Walk-ins are also welcome!
So far, we have around 33 sign ups with 90% being female donors and 10% male donors. We encourage everyone, especially those who haven’t donated recently, to consider participating. While we understand that schedules can be busy and some may feel nervous about needles, donating blood is a powerful way to save lives. Your blood naturally replenishes every 120 days, so if you’re in good health and eligible, this is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the community.
Remarks: Students aged 16-17 must bring a signed consent form.
Final Reminder: Updated Google Drive Storage Quotas Effective Feb 2, 2026
To optimize our Google Workspace storage, the IT Department will implement new storage limits:

HSAPCC5: Field Trip to Shenzhen
On the afternoon of Jan 22, students from the HSAP Chinese Communication 5 class traveled to Shenzhen for an immersive cultural and urban exploration. The trip included a visit to the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art & Urban Planning, where students engaged with exhibitions on the city’s rapid development and innovative urban design. Following the museum tour, the group enjoyed a shared hot pot dinner—a flavorful cultural experience that sparked lively conversation and deepened their understanding of contemporary Chinese social life.
This outing provided students with firsthand insight into Shenzhen’s dynamic growth and offered a meaningful context for their language and communication studies, blending academic learning with real-world cultural exposure.
HS Chinese & Culture 11 Theatre Visit:
Stepping into the Absurd World of Vacant Possession
In Jan, Students from the HS Chinese & Culture 11 class watched the remarkable play Vacant Possession (凶的空间). Set in a rental apartment, the play presents a humorous and thought-provoking story. As part of the Theatre's "Text Special Zone" season, it has won several awards, including the Best Supporting Actress at the HK Drama Awards, Outstanding Male Actor at the HK Small Theatre Awards, and a nomination for Script/Playwright of the Year at the IATC(HK) Critics Awards. The visit offered students an immersive dramatic experience and a deeper understanding of contemporary theatre art, inspiring their upcoming drama studies and creative work.
It’s been 24 years since Joseph Lo graduated from ICS, but he still remembers his formative years fondly. He has been married for 18 years and has three children (16, 14, and 11). After high school, he attended UBC, where he studied Computer Science and enjoyed a lot of sushi.
Today, Joseph is the Head of AI Innovation at Broadridge Financial Solutions, an S&P 500 financial technology leader. He holds several patents at the intersection of finance and AI, and is considered an expert in applying artificial intelligence in enterprises. This year, he will also serve as a lecturer on the topic at the Wharton School of Business.
In his personal time, Joseph still plays the bass (he once had a family band until his kids got too cool for it) and still dominates all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ. He also still hangs out with Mr. Landis, who remains as eccentric as ever, and to whom he attributes his love and curiosity for computers.
