Dear Elementary Families,
Happy New Year! It is great to be back in school as students shake off sleepiness, get back into a school schedule, and dive into the curriculum. We appreciate your partnership in re-establishing regular routines at home to help your child regain the momentum lost over the break. Consistent routines provide a predictable rhythm and prepare children for effective learning both at home and at school.
Below are some ideas for home routines.
Homework Routine: Set a specific time and quiet space for homework and instrument practice to emphasize the importance of studies. You can refer to the Elementary Parent and Student Handbook for our Homework Policy.
Reading Time: Encourage daily reading by allocating time each evening. This not only enhances literacy skills but also fosters a love for stories and books. Students can borrow and return books weekly at the library.
Bedtime and Wake-Up Schedule: Maintain a regular bedtime to ensure your child gets ample sleep; a well-rested student is more focused and prepared to learn.
Healthy Meals & Snacks: Provide nutritious meals to improve concentration and energy. Balanced breakfasts and snacks are essential, as sugary snacks can lead to fluctuating energy levels, affecting focus and productivity.
Play or Downtime: Allocate time for recreational activities to promote exercise, relaxation, and creativity, and limit screen time. Structured and unstructured play can enhance social skills and overall well-being—ultimately benefiting academic performance.
We also commit to joining you in prayer for your children, their learning, and for your families. We pray that 2026 will be a year where we all draw closer to God and experience his many blessings.
Term 1 Report Cards - January 16, 2026
This week, teachers are also finalizing grades and comments for the report cards that will be coming out next Friday, January 16. The report cards provide an overview of your child's progress over the past semester, and our goal is to clearly communicate individual learning progress. Please plan to take time next weekend to review the report card with your child, celebrate their successes, and discuss areas for improvement. The school has prepared a video on parental use of PowerSchool that you may find helpful both as a reminder and of its various uses and in preparation for the release of report cards next week. Next week we will also share a video to guide parents in how to read the report card.
Blessings,

A Reminder on School Outerwear
With the temperature fluctuating, we all want to make sure that our children are sufficiently warm. Please be reminded that students must wear school uniform outerwear (sweatshirts, hoodies, fleece vests/jackets & and shells) at school.
Please also be sure that your child’s name is written on their uniform outerwear so that it can be returned to them if left behind.
The Elementary School has a provision in the handbook for cold-weather days (12 degrees or below) where students may wear their cold-weather parkas from home. In the classroom, however, students must wear the uniform and uniform outerwear.
Whenever we make a change to the calendar it will appear on the Elementary School Google Calendar. Parents can view the Elementary Google Calendar from the school's website. On the My ICS page, simply scroll down to the calendars, find the Elementary School calendar, and click the Google Calendar icon on the bottom right of the calendar.
