Dear ICS Community,
After the fire, Hong Kong feels hushed. Jesus told of seeds that withered on rocky ground and of houses that fell when built on sand. Roots and foundations matter—especially when the heat rises and the rains come. Our calling now is to deepen the roots of learning and community so that together we stand, steady and fruitful.
At ICS, strong roots begin with relationships: every child seen, known, and valued each day, with student voice shaping learning, assessment, and improvement so knowledge and truth grow together. Excellence rises when high expectations are paired with timely support, clear success criteria, and feedback that helps students understand what they know and what comes next.
The soil we cultivate is communal. From the security guards at the front gate to the Chair of the Board of Trustees, we strengthen the whole community and each other through two-way communication and genuine engagement that builds participation and accountability. This means listening first—through regular one-on-ones, department conversations, and classroom walkthroughs, we can set clear and shared priorities on which we can actually deliver, together. It also means keeping our promises, choosing evidence-based actions, and communicating plainly about student learning so trust grows with clarity.
Learning also reaches outward, connecting work in our classrooms to the needs of our city and the wider world, so students become courageous, compassionate contributors who serve with wisdom and care. We practice disciplined effort balanced by shared successes and honest reflection; we look at evidence together, try small improvements, and iterate—linking hard work to wellbeing in ways that endure.
This week, faithfulness looks like checking in with each other and with our students before checking work; greeting each person by name; creating calm spaces; telling the truth kindly; and being aware of the unique and shared stories we all have. We will sow such seeds of presence, clarity, and kindness—and, by God’s grace, cultivate oaks of righteousness that stand in times such as these.
Blessings to you all,
Phillip Taylor

On November 29 and 30, 58 student-led teams participated in the annual 24-Hour Race Hong Kong, an endurance relay event dedicated to raising money and awareness to fight human trafficking. Three teams from ICS took on the gruelling challenge, successfully raising over $36,000 and pushing through cramps and fatigue for a full day and night.
The intense dedication paid off brilliantly: the ICS Warriors team finished in a stunning 1st place, with the Warrior B team also achieving a phenomenal 10th place overall. We would also like to give an honorable mention to our senior team, who displayed tremendous effort and also finished strong. This was a remarkable display of athleticism and teamwork!
Beyond the main cause, funds raised from the sale of refreshments and clothing were also donated to affected families of the Tai Po fire, demonstrating a strong commitment to both global and local community efforts. Well done to all the ICS runners for their incredible spirit and outstanding achievement!

I am grateful to God for His abundant blessings throughout my life, including my time at ICS from 1998 to 2000. ICS laid a strong foundation not only academically but also spiritually. I am also thankful to the dedicated teachers and staff, as well as my friends, at ICS, whose support, guidance, and encouragement played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. After graduating from ICS, I attained a BBA and an MPA from HKU and subsequently an MBA from UChicago, which opened doors to meaningful career opportunities in private equity. Currently, I attend Ambassador International Church, where many ICS teachers and alumni gather each Sunday. I warmly welcome everyone to join our Sunday service and experience fellowship and worship together. I thank God for His unwavering presence throughout my journey—from ICS to where I am today—and for guiding me toward a fulfilling career and community. ICS will always hold a special place in my heart.
