Dear Middle School Parents,
As I reflect on the nine years I have spent as a teacher at ICS, I’m truly amazed by the growth and transformation I’ve witnessed in our students. Watching them navigate the ups and downs of middle school life is both inspiring and humbling. It seems like yesterday our current Grade 8 students were in Elementary School. Sometimes, it can feel like everything is moving too quickly, and all we want is for it all to slow down. In these moments, I am reminded that we serve a God who created all things, who is sovereign over all things, and who can use all things for His glory.
I want to encourage us all to place our trust in the one truly unshakable thing. Jesus is the solid foundation on which we stand and the very cornerstone of ICS. The history of ICS is not without its challenges, but it is a dynamic story of the goodness and mercy that follow when we trust in the one who sets the universe in motion.
As we navigate the complexities of each school year, I continue to be encouraged by the words of Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Blessings,
Will Schroeder

“Día de los Muertos, and Día de todos los Santos” are celebrations in Spanish-speaking countries that reflect a blend of religion, pre-Hispanic beliefs, and traditions, as well as a wide variety of foods and dishes that people share together as they gather to remember those loved ones who have passed away. Even when not everyone shares the same beliefs, everyone shares the same foods that are eaten exclusively during these days, the 1st and 2nd of November.. In Spanish classes, students learned about the perspectives and beliefs behind these traditions and also learned how to make a traditional drink, “Colada Morada”. Colada Morada is a traditional drink from Ecuador, served when families gather together to remember those who have passed away. It combines fruits harvested in Ecuador, the juice of blackberries, and the flavor of a blend of species.
