Congratulations to our students' outstanding performance at the 4th Dr. R. Lister Cup Malvern Scholastic Chess Open. With over 500 participants, our 15 talented ICS chess players demonstrated remarkable skill and sportsmanship across the U10, U12, and U18 categories. Nearly all our players finished in the top half of their divisions—a testament to the depth of talent at ICS.
We extend a special congratulations to our U12 players for their exceptional achievements:
Josephine Chan (6G3) secured 5th place individually out of 112 players, with 6 wins in 7 games—finishing just half a point behind the champion.
The U12 team (Josephine Chan, Matthew Fang, Samuel Yu) achieved 5th place in the top schools category, an impressive feat competing with only three players against teams of four.
Josh Ho (5A) played goalkeeper in a field hockey tournament with 12 teams in his age group—and his team won the championship! Across six games, they conceded just one goal, and Josh was awarded Best Goalkeeper.
Beyond the trophy, what makes us most proud is his character. Josh faced pressure before and during the matches, but he persevered and was overflowing with joy at the finish. His commitment and resilience are an inspiration to us all. Please join us in congratulating Josh on this incredible achievement!
Philippa Wu (3A) has achieved an outstanding 3rd place in the Graded Piano Solo, Grade Four (Group E113-2).
Competing against 43 other talented musicians—many from secondary schools—Philippa delivered a confident and impressive performance in what was her first time playing on stage. The British adjudicator commended her "good dynamic controls and swift in speed," noting that she grasped "a good sense of the style."
We are incredibly proud of Philippa with such poise and for achieving this recognition at a young age. It is a testament to her dedication and God-given talent.
