Rebranding with Purpose: An Update from the Dean of Student Life
Dear ICS Community,
I am writing to share a meaningful update regarding my role within our school. After thoughtful conversations with our leadership team, my title is officially changing from Dean of Co-Curricular Education & Pastoral Care to Dean of Student Life.
This change represents a refinement of language, not a shift in purpose. It more clearly reflects our department’s mission: to partner with you in raising young people who love the Lord with all their heart and are holistically equipped to make an impact in His world.
Scripture calls us to nurture the whole person. Jesus Himself grew “in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man” (Luke 2:52). This single verse beautifully outlines the holistic journey- intellectual, physical, spiritual, and social-that we are called to support.
Student Life encompasses the vibrant, diverse, and formative journey that happens beyond the classroom through spiritual formation, athletics, service learning, clubs & activities, health & safeguarding. It is my great privilege to oversee an incredible team dedicated to intentionally cultivating each student in every dimension of their growth.
This new title is a promise- a promise to see your child not just as a student, but as a whole person with unlimited potential. From the playing field to the prayer circle, from the health office to the service project, we are here to integrate these experiences into one powerful, purposeful story of growth. My team and I are excited by this clarifying step and remain deeply committed to creating environments where character is forged, God-given passions are discovered, and faith finds its hands and feet.
Blessings
Christina Daniel
Dean of Student Life
Following the November 21 update, the Board of Trustees completed a thorough evaluation of the funding options outlined, carefully reviewing the extensive feedback and diverse perspectives from our parent community, which included further options.
Many of you have shared valuable insights through the Parents Association and direct conversations with school leadership. This input has been instrumental in helping the Board evaluate the various approaches and was carefully considered in preparation for the Board's meeting on December 10. After prayerful deliberation, they have released this statement for today:
"The Board has decided to put on hold the collection of Annual Capital Levy. We will discuss with the EdB in reviewing and maintaining the debenture program. At the same time, we will look into ways of fundraising for future capital expenditure."
Should any future options include an Annual Capital Levy, there are no plans to charge this to faculty or staff in the eventuality of its introduction.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership, encouragement, and prayers. The strength of our community and shared commitment to ICS's mission continue to guide us as we plan wisely for the school's future. As Head of Schools, I will continue to provide further updates from our Board as their discussions with the Education Bureau progress and alternative funding approaches are developed.
Nick Seward
Head of Schools
It is with heavy hearts that we learned of the passing of Mr. Gregory So, former Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, and one of the founding supporters who helped establish our school.
In December 1991, before ICS even opened its doors, Mr. So signed our constitutional documents, helping to lay the legal foundation for what would become our school community. As Ione Smith, one of our early leaders, recalled, “We were so fortunate to have Greg. He did so much free legal work for the school. If he would have charged us for all his billable hours, we would have gone bankrupt. He was a real gift to ICS.”
Mr. So’s generous legal support was instrumental in establishing our school over three decades ago. His contribution helped create the foundation upon which our school community continues to thrive today, serving students from around the world.
We are deeply grateful for his role in making ICS possible. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. So’s family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in God’s grace and peace.
As we approach the final days of the year, we’re sending you our last Weekly Warrior of 2025. It’s been an incredible journey sharing happenings, awards and stories with you each week, and we’re grateful for your readership and engagement throughout the year.

Re-enrollment for the 2026–27 academic year will begin on the first day we return from Christmas break, Monday, January 5. Kindly log in to PowerSchool to complete the online re-enrollment by Friday, January 9, to retain your child’s seat at ICS for the coming academic year. The process should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. In parallel with completing your child’s re-enrollment, please also take time to update your family’s contact information in PowerSchool. (*Current Reception 2 and Grade 12 students are exempt from this process.)
Once the January 9 re-enrollment deadline has passed, the Admissions Office will begin offering any remaining vacancies to outside applicants. Therefore, it is important that all current ICS families fully complete the re-enrollment process to guarantee a seat for their children for the 2026–27 academic year.
If you encounter difficulties with, or have questions about, the re-enrollment process, please contact the Admissions Office at 3920-0001 or email admissions@ics.edu.hk.
Art Trip in Tokyo
In mid-November, ten AP Studio Art students embarked on a five-day educational trip to Tokyo. The trip centered around Design Festa, a major international art event showcasing thousands of artists. While our students explored hundreds of inspiring booths, they also set up and managed their own exhibition space. They featured art postcards and, this year, custom ceramic pieces for sale.
Working in pairs, the group navigated the challenges of engaging potential customers and communicating across a language barrier. The experience culminated in a rewarding achievement: every student sold at least one piece of their original artwork. The final day included a scenic trip to Enoshima Island, where the group was treated to a stunning sunset over Mount Fuji. Our students returned not only with memorable experiences but also with renewed inspiration for their artistic journeys.
This past Friday, the Crochet Connections club delivered a special dose of Christmas spirit to our hardworking school cleaners. The gifts were not store-bought, but the beautiful, handmade crochet projects the club members have been crafting all semester. Each item was carefully placed in a festive gift bag and accompanied by a personalized note from the students. Club members traveled through the school to personally deliver these tokens of appreciation, offering each cleaner a heartfelt "Merry Christmas" and a hug. For those they couldn't find on-site, gifts were left with the JLL office to ensure no one was missed. Thank you to the Crochet Connections club for using your talents to make our school a warmer place this holiday season.
Each year, our Christmas Shoebox and Carepacks Blessing project reminds us of the cherished tradition of caring and giving during the Christmas season. This year, our school community has come together beautifully, contributing 484 shoeboxes from our Kindergarten and Elementary School, and 319 carepacks from our Middle and High Schools.
In addition, we are allocating 50 shoeboxes and 50 carepacks to support the affected families of the Tai Po Fire. We hope that, as a community, we can continue to bless those around us and celebrate the true Reason for the season.
Just as God gave His beloved Son at Christmas, we too are called to follow His command to be generous and love those around us.
"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7
Thanks to our Service Learning Team for organizing a wonderful visit for our MS Advanced Strings students to our neighbors at HK Christian Service Pario Kindergarten. This was a beautiful opportunity to connect with and bless our local community, sharing happiness, peace, and joy through the gift of music. We are so proud of our musicians for sharing their talents. As we reflect on the power of music to bring people together, we are reminded of the words:
“Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.” — Psalm 33:2-3
