Dear ICS Community,
It’s hard to believe that we are already a full month into this school year, yet I look ahead and see that we still have a whole year ahead of us. I am excited to see all the places we go and the memories we make along the way. Today, I want to share some thoughts that have been on my mind about community and what that means to me in our Christian school context.
ICS, as a whole, is a large community that includes everyone connected to this school. We are thankful that this community encompasses students, teachers, parents, and administrators. It’s also important to remember that our community also includes other groups such as finance, IT, facilities management, the school board, HR, teaching assistants, counselors, curriculum coordinators, administrative assistants, and all the other individuals involved in the running of this school. Each of these groups act as part of the greater ICS community and have an impact on the culture and environment within the school.
1 Corinthians 12:12-27 lays out a beautiful picture of how each part of the “body” plays an important role. Christian communities are the body, and each person or group plays an important role within that community. As a Christian school, we want to embody this concept and nurture an environment where each member of the body can be valued and recognized for their contributions to the greater ICS mission of delivering excellent Christian education. Each of these groups is essential to a thriving community.
As we go throughout this year, I want to encourage you all to take part in the many community-building activities that will occur. Our first big community-building event is the upcoming “Community Worship Night,” organized by our PA. This event is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a Christian community to worship the God who brings purpose to our lives. I also encourage you to actively participate in our school community by attending concerts, sporting competitions, school plays, choir/band/strings concerts, and the many other activities that will take place throughout this year.
Most of all, I urge you to be in prayer for each of the groups mentioned above. Each one of those groups will need your prayers as we press forward into this year. We can rest in the fact that we serve a God who holds the future in His hands and cares deeply about each person who makes up the ICS community.
Blessings,
Will Schroeder

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we begin the new school year, the health and safety of our students remain our top priority. In light of recent communications from the Centre for Health Protection (CHP), we would like to share some key reminders to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
🦟 Mosquito-Borne Diseases (e.g., Dengue Fever, Chikungunya Fever)
●Hong Kong remains at risk for mosquito-borne illnesses. Please encourage your children to use insect repellent and wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors.
●Help eliminate mosquito breeding sites by removing stagnant water at home (e.g., in flower pots, containers, and drains).
😷 Respiratory Infections (Influenza, COVID-19, RSV)
●Seasonal flu activity is expected to rise later this year. COVID-19 and RSV are also circulating.
●Get vaccinated: The seasonal influenza vaccine (SIV) is highly recommended for children. It reduces the risk of serious illness and school absenteeism.
●If your child shows any respiratory symptoms (even mild ones), please keep them at home, ensure they wear a mask, and seek medical advice.
👣 Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD)
●HFMD is common among children and can spread quickly in school settings.
●Symptoms include fever, rash, and sores. Keep your child at home if they show any signs of HFMD until fully recovered.
●Practice good hand hygiene and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home.
🧼 General Hygiene Practices
●Remind your children to wash their hands frequently with soap and water.
●Avoid sharing personal items like clothing, water bottles, or utensils.
●If your child has a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash, please keep them home and consult a doctor.
📞 Reporting Illness
●If your child is diagnosed with a communicable disease, please inform the school health office immediately.
●In case of suspected outbreaks, the school will cooperate with the CHP for contact tracing and control measures.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community healthy and safe. Let’s work together to ensure a successful and healthy school year.
For more information, you may refer to the CHP Guidelines.
Blessings,

Each week, we joyfully highlight one of our cherished alumni—sharing their journey and keeping us connected by seeing what they’re up to beyond our campus walls. This week, let us start with the President of our ICS Alumni Association, Rickie Hung.
Rickie Hung is an Educational Psychologist with over a decade of experience supporting students with special needs in Hong Kong's school and private practice settings. An ICS alumnus ('99), his career path took shape during his undergraduate studies at Queen's University (Canada), where a pre-med focus evolved into a passion for psychology and education. This led him to obtain a PGDE at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Master in Educational Psychology at the University of Alberta. Now, as President of the ICS Alumni Association (ICSAA), Rickie channels his gratitude for the foundation he received at ICS into fostering a connected and supportive community for all alumni.
