Dear ICS Community,
We will all, along with the wider city, be reeling from the terrible events in Tai Po, I know. As we pray for the ongoing work of emergency services, we are grateful at ICS that one member of our staff and his family escaped the blaze, and is now being housed on campus at Shek Mun. Of course it is becoming clear that there are many who did not; at such times we cry out to God, “why?” That question is especially pointed as we commence the holiday of Thanksgiving, but perhaps it is good to remember that gratitude for the original pilgrims to New England grew out of extreme hardship and many losses as they fled persecution, and later the holiday developed out of the need for unity to heal the wounds of the bitter US Civil War.
Paul reminds us in his letter to the Philippians that grateful hearts are rooted ultimately in the Giver, rather than the gifts: “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:11-13) When in trials or tribulations, we can trust our Heavenly Father to supply what we need, which is primarily our relationship with Him.
Jesus was no stranger to pain and grief, and we are warned in Scripture not to leap to hasty conclusions about God’s purposes in allowing suffering. Job’s “comforters” were wrong in thinking the calamities that came upon him were due to his sin, and Jesus Himself told His disciples that the blindness of one man was nothing to do with the sin of himself or his parents, but so that God’s works might be made manifest. What we do know is that “God works for good in all things for those who love Him” (and what an urgency that gives us to preach the Gospel). Today I take refuge in the words of the Heidelberg Catechism, which asks, “What is your only comfort in life and death?”; “That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death— to my faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ.”

Dear Parents
Following our Monday's forum, the Board of Trustees sincerely wishes to thank all the parents who participated. We are carefully reviewing all the extensive feedback and diverse perspectives from our parent community.
The Board is conducting a thorough evaluation of several options including but not limited to:
1/ Reducing the proposed ACL amount while extending the completion of school's CAPEX requirements;
2/ Adjusting the debenture repayment period;
3/ A combination of both approaches;
4/ Maintaining the current debenture system (status quo); and
5/ Having any new scheme to apply to new students only.
We will be providing a comprehensive update in early December outlining our findings and next steps. No final decision will be made without further community consultation.
We appreciate your patience as we work through this complex matter thoughtfully. Please continue in sharing feedback with the Head of School's office this couple weeks to ensure all perspectives are considered.
We would also ask for your continued prayers into these significant matters.

For years, it has been a cherished ICS tradition for families to order poinsettias that transform our theatre into a festive wonderland for the Christmas concerts.
These stunning plants (priced from $45-$80) do more than just decorate our stage; they are a living testament to our joy as we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. By participating, you are directly helping to create a joyful and worshipful atmosphere for our students and the entire community.
Your poinsettia plays three important roles:
It Decorates Our Theatre: Your poinsettia will be placed at the front of the stage, creating a beautiful and festive frame for our performers and spreading joy throughout the concerts.
It Comes Home with You: After the final concert on Dec 18, you can collect your poinsettia from the JLL security office (8 am - 5 pm) to enjoy at home.
It Spreads Love: If you prefer not to collect it, we will donate your poinsettia to an NGO in the Shatin area, sharing the love of the season with the wider community.
This is a simple and meaningful way to contribute. The cost will be conveniently charged to your school bill next month. We are in the final days to place our order. Let’s come together to fill our theatre with the spirit of Christmas.

Fermat Mathematical Olympiad – National Round
On October 2, an impressive 10 out of 13 students won awards, qualifying for the Final Round in Vietnam in January 2026.

On October 27, 19 of our 20 participants qualified for the International Round in Osaka, Japan this December.

Kevin Hung (Class of 1995)
Kevin Hung, a 1995 ICS graduate, has come a long way since his time as valedictorian, Student Council President, and Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper. He also played the flute and sang in the choir, crediting ICS for helping him grow into a well-rounded individual despite being naturally introverted.
After ICS, Kevin studied Engineering at Queen’s University in Canada and later earned his Master’s and Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He began his career developing medical devices before transitioning to academia. Today, Kevin is the Head of the Department of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science at Hong Kong Metropolitan University.
He also serves as Vice Chair of IEEE Hong Kong and is the Past Chair of the Electronics and Communications Section of IET Hong Kong. His research focuses on mobile health, wearable devices, and quantum AI. Passionate about teaching, Kevin enjoys taking students on exchange and service tours.
Happily married, Kevin’s two daughters now attend ICS in Grades 8 and 9. Watching them walk the same halls brings him great joy. Kevin’s journey reflects how ICS shapes students into global leaders, and he continues to inspire the community with his dedication and achievements.

This early release is designed to help our families and staff plan ahead for the upcoming academic year. While the core structure is now in place, please note that some smaller details and specific event timings will be refined and communicated closer to the time.
We encourage you to mark these key dates in your personal calendars first. The final version will be finalised and published in the coming months.
